Overview
Expo International Exchange Program
This initiative is part of the Expo International Exchange Program implemented by the Japanese Cabinet Secretariat from fiscal year 2024 to 2025. The program, in conjunction with the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, aims to foster continuous international exchange between local residents and participants from Expo countries.
As one of the participating countries, Ghana plays a crucial role in this effort. The programme seeks to promote mutual understanding between Japan and participating nations, address regional concerns through human exchange, and deepen cultural engagement through the collaboration between Rifu Town and AFAM.
Through this partnership, AFAM supports a broader Ghana–Japan exchange by linking communities in Japan with educational and cultural institutions in Ghana, thereby helping to build lasting cultural bridges and stronger people-to-people understanding.

Introduction to the 2025 Osaka Expo
The 2025 Osaka Expo, themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” is a major international event that brings together countries, institutions, and communities to imagine and shape a better future.
By engaging in this wider global conversation, AFAM contributes to meaningful cultural diplomacy and helps create real opportunities for shared learning between local communities in Japan and partner institutions in Africa.

Explore Rifu Town
Rifu Town, located in Miyagi Prefecture, is a vibrant and welcoming community known for its natural beauty, civic vitality, and openness to international exchange.
Rifu also holds a recognized place in Japan’s sports and public life, including Miyagi Stadium, which hosted matches during the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan. Its partnership in this initiative reflects a commitment to meaningful local-global engagement.

Swedru Senior High School (SWESCO)
Swedru Senior High School, popularly known as SWESCO, is one of Ghana’s respected secondary educational institutions. Located in Swedru in the Central Region of Ghana, the school has built a longstanding reputation for academic discipline, student development, and cultural pride.
Its involvement in the exchange demonstrates the educational dimension of the Ghana–Japan partnership and gives young people a meaningful platform for international exposure and cultural learning.

Rifu Town - AFAM Departure Ceremony
As part of the Expo International Exchange Program, delegates from Rifu Town and AFAM departed for Ghana for a cultural exchange mission. The departure ceremony marked an important moment of goodwill, partnership, and shared commitment to deepening relations between Japan and Ghana.
