This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Asiedu’s outstanding leadership and the significant contributions of AFAM to fostering cultural exchanges and international cooperation between Africa and Japan.
Although unable to attend in person, Dr. Asiedu delivered a heartfelt speech in absentia, expressing his gratitude to the organizers and acknowledging the collective efforts of the AFAM community. He emphasized the importance of AFAM’s mission, which focuses on uniting African
expatriates in the Tohoku region, promoting African values, and engaging with local Japanese communities through seminars, cultural exchanges, and educational initiatives.
Dr. Asiedu highlighted AFAM’s commitment to bridging cultural divides through events that have
attracted hundreds of participants, offering valuable insights into Africa’s development journey, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the diverse cultures of the continent. He also shared
the success of AfriMag, a magazine produced by AFAM that reaches schools, universities, libraries, and public spaces across Miyagi Prefecture, promoting a deeper understanding of
Africa among young people in Japan.
This award celebrates the ongoing efforts of AFAM to contribute to the internationalization
process of Miyagi Prefecture and beyond. As AFAM prepares to participate in the upcoming Osaka Expo, Dr. Asiedu reiterated AFAM’s dedication to fostering greater connections between African nations and Japan.
