Our Mission

A student community with purpose

AFAM Student Wing exists to help African students thrive academically, socially, culturally, and personally while studying in Tohoku.

We believe that student life in Japan should not be lonely, confusing, or disconnected. Through friendship, mentorship, representation, and practical support, AFAM Student Wing helps students settle well, aim higher, and contribute positively to both African and Japanese communities.

1
Support transition and settlement
Help new students adapt to life in Japan with guidance, connection, and encouragement.
2
Promote academic excellence
Encourage serious study, mentorship, research growth, and leadership development.
3
Celebrate African identity
Create a proud and positive space where African cultures, voices, and talents are visible and respected.
4
Build bridges in Tohoku
Strengthen exchange with Japanese students, universities, and communities through shared activities and mutual respect.

Why this matters

AFAM Student Wing is more than a student group. It is a platform of belonging, support, and representation for African students who are building their future in Japan.

It gives students a place to ask questions, find encouragement, develop confidence, and create meaningful memories beyond the classroom.

From undergraduate students to master’s and doctoral researchers, AFAM Student Wing helps connect journeys, experiences, and aspirations across the region.
